Life & Ministry of Paul

Life & Ministry of Paul

Teacher
Dow F. Robinson, Ph.D.

Course Description
This course examines the life of Paul and his works as described in Acts and the epistles. The course gives perspective on the impact of Paul’s life as he planted churches, taught, worked as a tentmaker and ultimately became a catalyst used by God to reach the Gentiles. Paul’s letters reflect the background and training in the Mosaic Law as well as the Father’s Spirit working in him to relate Jesus’ Kingdom teachings in a way that transformed the lifestyle of every culture he encountered. It is difficult, if not impossible, to overstate Paul’s impact on the Christian church for nearly 2,000 years.

Course Objectives
  • To understand Paul’s background and the effects it had on his ministry and mission.
  • To divest ourselves of western, cultural mindsets in order to express Paul’s life and work in terms of Mid-Eastern culture of the first century A.D.
  • To present Paul as a light to the Gentiles.
  • To present Paul as a light to all social strata – from slaves, to business people, to prominent women, to intellectuals, to governors, to kings and to emperors.
  • To present Paul as an interpreter of Torah in order to reach his fellow Jews with a correct, albeit counter-cultural, Gospel of the Kingdom.
  • To understand Paul’s strategies for planting churches and how they morphed for varying cultural contexts.
  • To provide a chronological account of the flow of Paul’s life by harmonizing accounts from the book of Acts and the Epistles.
